Oneida County is now hiring for a Foreperson position with the Oneida County Highway Department. This position will work out of the Rhinelander shop year round.
SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES: This supervisory position works under the general direction of the Patrol Superintendent and Commissioner to schedule, coordinate, oversee and supervise County road maintenance and construction, State road maintenance, hands-on work plus the winter maintenance programs. Position assists in overseeing employee safety procedures and safety training. Duties also include patrolling roads for needed repairs, completing reports, maintaining spreadsheets for costs, materials, labor, equipment use, fees and subcontractor work, plus reviewing employee time/material slips, monitor and report equipment repair and respond to both emergency situations and general inquiries regarding highway safety and repair concerns. This is a working supervisor position and will perform all the duties and responsibilities of the Highway Operator position on a regular basis.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified applicants must have a High school degree or equivalent. Post high school education credits in job relevant areas is preferred but not required. At least four years work experience in highway maintenance or closely related work plus one year of supervisory experience with planning and equipment operations is strongly preferred. Qualified candidates must have a Class A C.D.L. (Commercial Driver’s License) with tanker and air break endorsements and good driving record.
WORK HOURS: These full-time positions work Monday through Thursday from 5:30AM to 4:00PM during summer months. Winter hours vary based on snow removal needs. Overtime is paid for weekend hours worked and position may be required, as needed, to work nights and weekends for snow removal and storm cleanup.
WAGES AND BENEFITS: Starting 2025 hourly wage of $31.58 to $34.29 per hour plus excellent benefit package provided which includes affordable health insurance, enrollment in Wisconsin Retirement System benefits and generous Paid Time Off (PTO) with the ability to carryover unused PTO hours into future years.
